Doula Services

Within our Somerset based practice, we offer guidance through the sometimes bewildering array of choices, helping you to make informed decisions at your own pace.

We have much experience in the birthing room and have supported women alone and women working closely with their partners, in hospitals, homebirths and in water.

We often spend pre-natal sessions working with partners/husbands also, in order to help facilitate their ability to be of most support to you in your labour. We help to inform and empower men so that they can participate more fully in the pregnancy and birth and be of most assitance to you on the day.

Initially, we will have the opportunity to meet up or chat on the phone informally, to establish whether we feel we could work together.

Once this is established, we offer full and committed support; we are available via e-mail and both landline and mobile phones.

There are usually two prenatal appointments, roughly two hours long each. We remain on call for you from around two weeks before until two weeks after your due date, and attend your birth throughout, staying afterwards until you are ready for us to go; usually at least a couple of hours later. We also come and check in with you and your new family after the Birth, allowing you both to de-brief from the experience and ask any questions you might have around Breastfeeding or care for your new Baby.

We also offer individual Childbirth Preparation sessions in Somerset or in your home, should you not require birth attendance. Please contact us for further details.

At your Birth, firstly we entirely trust your ability to do it! Offering a firm belief and faith in the process, built upon our experience rather than just hope alone, we know how powerful the presence of a Doula is.

For those times when you may feel you need a little help,we offer the use of acupressure points and massage as natural alternatives to pain relief, plus homeopathic remedies, breathwork and herbal preparations specifically for designed for childbirth. We also encourage Active Birth positions to allow easier descent of baby, when appropriate.

We are there for you both as an advocate, allowing you to completely submerge yourself into the experience whilst we protect your wishes and work with your Partner in supporting you where appropriate. We help also with the practical things, like when to call the Midwife, fill the tub, go to your chosen Birthing venue and remember to light candles and put your music on, should you request it!

The cost of this service is £550, and in some cases travel expenses may apply. This fee can be paid by instalments should that be preferable, or where there is need, a concessionary rate is available for those on benefits. We will come to your home for appointments and your labour, travelling on to the Maternity unit or hospital with you, should that be your chosen birth venue.
